Marlborough Day is the annual street festival held in the historic town of Upper Marlboro, Maryland, on the Saturday before Mother's Day. This year, it falls on May 7th, 2011.
This year's theme is Maryland's Agricultural History, and we welcome participation from local farms, crafters, or any other people who can support our area's rich and diverse agricultural past and present.
Marlborough Day is a street festival with things for all ages; we kick off with a parade at 10am and continue through the day with live music and dancers, clowns and magicians, a moon bounce, library book sale, an animal show, arts and crafts vendors for last-minute Mother's Day gifts, information booths from government and non-profits and lots of great food.
For those interesting in participating, please note that we have moved many deadlines forward to give us time to get all groups listed in our program. We may still accept late registration if time permits, but they will not be listed in the Marlborough Day program.
The festival kicks off with a parade at 10am, and runs through 5pm.
We should have the stage schedules available shortly
Guests should take MD Route 4 to the Water Street exit towards the Prince George's Equestrian Center / Show Place Arena. If you are coming from US 301, take the MD 4 exit to Upper Marlboro. If you are coming from MD 202, turn right at MD 725, then there is an immediate left on Race Track Road that will take you to the Equestrian Center parking lots.
It's a short walk from the Equestrian Center to Main Street, but there is also a free shuttle bus available.
Guests needing handicapped parking should take the Water Street exit towards the Town of Upper Marlboro, and park in the courthose parking lot, across from Church Street.
Gov. Oden Bowie Drive will be available as a detour around Main Street after the Parade is finished and we have verified that pedestrians are no longer in the street. We hope to have it re-opened by noon.
For those attempting to get from MD Route 4 to Old Marlboro Pike or Old Crain Highway you will be forced to turn at Church Street, but expect delays due to handicapped parking and police telling people to turn around to go back to the Equestrian Center to park.
For those attempting to get from Old Marlboro Pike or Old Crain Highway to MD Route 4; if you are heading east, you should take Old Marlboro Pike to access Route 4 at Richie Marlboro Road. If you are heading west, you can either use the access from Richie Marlboro Road or Old Crain Highway.
Members of St. Mary's church should have received parking passes for Saturday morning services. You should turn into the church's driveway on Main Street as the gate from Gov. Oden Bowie Drive will be blocked. Gov. Oden Bowie Drive should be re-opened at noon, and no parking passes necessary for evening services.
Parade Participants and Vendors should approach the Town from the east on MD 725 (Main Street).
Parade participants should turn right on Gov. Oden Bowie Drive and park on the lower level of the County Admin. Building parking garage, on the left.
Vendors should continue on Main Street to their vendor location to unload their vehicles, and then move their vehicle to off-street parking. Main street will be one-way (towards the west) for vendor setup and teardown.
Vendors may park at :
We do not have permission to use the Courthouse Parking Garage, as it is currently undergoing renovations.
Entertainers should approach as per the instructions for Guest Handicapped parking. Entertainers at the Food Court stage may wish to park at the old school building across from the Post Office on Elm Street. (this would require approaching the town via Old Crain Highway or Old Marlboro Pike).
Vehicles must be off the streets by 9am. Vendors may not move their vehicles back onto the streets until 5pm. Normal traffic resumes at 6pm.
